Memorials U.S. from Italy at age 15. Mrs. Ficarrotto worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield until she met her husband Dominick on a blind date. They married shortly after, on May 17, 1958, and were marred for 57 years. The couple became the parents of Laura and Donna. A "stay-at-home" mom, her daughters described "Vicky" as "a wonderful, caring, giving wife and mother." As her daughters grew older "she decided to go back to work," wrote Donna and Laura. "In 1981 she was hired by Horace Mann School and continued to work there for the next 34 years." The school community "became her second family and she loved going to work each and every day. The staff and children always put a smile on her face. In time, she was blessed with a granddaughter Samantha, whom she loved and adored. She was the best Grammy and friend anyone could ask for, as always, giving her love and kindness to everyone she knew. Vicky always had a positive outlook on life and always a kind word. She made things better in any situation. Vicky will always be remembered for her friendly smile, and missed by all." In a Record article following her passing Eliza Christman-Cohen '16 reflected that anytime students "came into the cafeteria ... she would go out of her way to talk to them and ask how their day was." Sophia Friedman '16 remarked, "Vicky always put a smile on my face and made my day better whenever I saw her. I will miss her spirit and the genuine interest she had in what was happening in my life." Victoria Ficarrotto is survived by her husband Domenick Ficarrotto, and by daughters and sons-in-law Laura (John) Arena and Donna (Tony) Palermo, and by cherished granddaughter Samantha Arena. $ Memorials for Robert Leonhardt, former HM teacher, who died on April 6, 2016 and for Ron Lombardi who died June 2, 2016, will appear in the next issue of Horace Mann Magazine.
