Attractions Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay This incredible glass decked pedestrian bridge links the north and south campuses of the new Turtle Bay Exploration Park and serves as a new entrance for Redding’s Sacramento River Trail system. The unique design of the bridge was conceived by world renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It is the first bridge of its kind in the United States, and is the largest working sundial that is also a bridge in the world! The massive 210’ pylon leans due north and functions as the gnomon of a sundial, casting its giant shadow on a garden-bordered dial plate at the bridge’s north end. The bridge is not only an artistic statement but is also sensitive to its beautiful river setting.
