Attractions Lassen Volcanic National Park Less than an hour’s drive from Redding sits beautiful Lassen Volcanic National Park. The park boasts incredible mountain scenery reminiscent of Yosemite as well as fascinating thermal wonders similar to Yellowstone with just a small fraction of the visitors of either of those National Parks! Lassen contains three of the four different types of geothermal features including fumaroles or steam vents, mudpots, and hot springs. The park is open year-round; however, access is usually limited from December – May. Excellent cross-country skiing is available, as well as interpretive snowshoe tours led by park rangers. From Red Bluff, take Hwy 36E to the south entrance. It takes approximately 1 hour to drive through the park non-stop. (GPS: 40 28.459 x -121 30.333, trail head to Lassen Peak) McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park Spectacular 129-foot Burney Falls can be enjoyed from the top at the lookout point, but for a more refreshing experience, take the trail to the pool at the base of the falls and along the stream. Excellent camping is available, with 118 campsites, newly constructed restroom facilities, hot water showers, stoves, tables, and food lockers. A boat ramp is also available at nearby Lake Britton.
