Grid Philly - March 2009 - (Page 11) 6. 6 Now attach the second half of the bag to the zipper. make two tiny pen marks on the vacant side of the zipper to make it easier to line up. Open the zipper and fold the vinyl around into a tunnel. clip in place at pen marks. Sew the zipper to the body at oneeighth-inch seam. remove clips as you move along. Take your time on this step; it can be a little awkward, but it ultimately reduces the number of unfinished edges inside the bag. verse side out. close the zipper about 6 inches, leaving the last 3 inches open. Lay flat with the zipper at the top and clip in all four corners, starting with the open zipper side. make sure the top stops (the metal staples on the open side of the zipper) match up. open zipper side. Put the needle down and push the bag right up against it, lower the presser foot and sew, backstitching only once. If your machine refuses to sew over the zipper, start sewing just below the coil instead. repeat on the other side. 7. 8. Flip the bag into a tunnel with the re- 9. 9 12 10. Sew over these lines, backstitching at the start and finish. cut the corners off, trim down to a quarterinch. may need to use the rounded end of a marker to push out the corners without hurting your fingertips on the raw vinyl edges.
