These standards are 40% more efficient than the current Code of Federal Regulations and help carry out President Bush’s Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. • The new standard ANSI/ISA99.00.01-2007, Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems Part 1: Terminology, Concepts, and Models, is the first in a series of ISA standards that addresses cyber security for industrial automation and control systems. Commercial buildings to receive energy boost Key organizations have formed the Commercial Buildings Initiative (CBI) to examine how to transform commercial building energy use. The CBI is an alliance of industrial, academic, and governmental representatives who develop ways to deliver Zero Net Energy Commercial Buildings in a cost-effective and widespread manner. The plan includes the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities designed to transform energy performance in commercial buildings. Sponsors include ASHRAE, AIA, U.S. Green Building Council, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Dept. of Energy, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the Alliance to Save Energy. As a result of that growth, other trends include the growth of analysis, contractors driving model-based processes, MEP users driving BIM adoption, and the proliferation of third party BIM products. For example, 225,000 people use Autodesk Revit, a jump of 35,000 from 11 months ago. Autodesk customers are building a lot more models, and analysis is becoming an important component. Autodesk’s purchase of Robobat speaks to this trend, and Inventor, Autodesk’s 3-D mechanical modeling software, is moving to the forefront, being pushed as an important tool for engineers and contractors.
