REED BUSINESS INFORMATION Founded in 1933 Tad Smith, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Greisch, President, Chicago Division On The Web VISIT W W W. C S E M A G . C O M Ask the experts very month, CSE asks a distinguished panel of experts for information about how to best solve MEP engineering problems, challenges, and issues. Long-time readers will realize that we are talking about our popular monthly M/E Roundtable, which debuted in January 2000. CSE asks a variety of questions about a topic—usually focused on a type of engineered system or design strategy—and the experts provide detailed answers. Now, the CSE editors are looking to bring even greater reader participation into the M/E Roundtables. By letting you—the readers—ask the questions via our Web site, questions that we will then E use in the roundtables, we hope to bring a more direct connection of readers with these experts. Readers are invited to go to www.csemag.com, and click on “Ask the Experts” in the upper right corner of the homepage. You will find a list of topics to be covered during the coming year and can enter any relevant questions that you may wish to see addressed in that discussion. In the blogs at csemag.com CSE’s chief editor Michael Ivanovich launched a new series in recent weeks in his “Give and Take” blog. “This post is the starting point for a blog series on innovation,” Ivanovich wrote. “Your views are encouraged and welcome.” To join in the discussion, go to blogs tab on the www.csemag .com homepage. Also in the blogs, CSE’s “Field Guide for Engineers” blogger, David Sellers, PE, posted a series of discussions about the “two-thirds” rule for locating sensors to control variable flow systems. Sellers wrote that he encountered an operating engineer who pointed out that a differential pressure sensor controlling chilled water distribution pumps was located so that it sensed the pressure across the mains leaving the plant. Sellers had heard that one saves energy by locating the sensor two-thirds of the way between the pumps and the most remote load. He thought that relocating the sensor might offer an opportunity but wasn’t sure why.
