The first choice would be at least a 10 percent co-investment from the remaining equity in existing projects, after impairments are applied to mark those assets to market. An alternative would be to access equity from private groups well-known to the builder, such as family and friends. The builder with neither will have to earn its equity in the new entity through performance during the recovery period. 5. Because A&D and construction financing are difficult to arrange today — even with additional equity on the balance sheet — does the builder have any experience utilizing different financing alternatives like “construction perm” loans?
