RIMS 2009 Sessions Guide - (Page 23) Strategic Planning for Alternative Risk Programs— The Captive (FIN301) Thursday, 9:45 am - 11:15 am Strategic planning for alternative risk financing programs, including captives, is a management tool that assists leaders in defining goals, setting future company agendas and meeting owner and insured expectations. When developing a strategic plan, analysis of the captive and its environment and how it may develop in the future, is the primary focus of the planning process. The analysis has to be executed on an internal and external level to identify all opportunities and threats of the new strategy, oftentimes using a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) model. If you are an experienced risk professional, join this panel discussion as we detail the process of undergoing captive analysis with a large healthcare system case study of the analysis as it was developed, implemented and, ultimately, measured the effectiveness of the captive strategic plan.
