Rubber Expo Show Daily 2008 - (Page 3) POST SHOW DAILY RUBBER MINI EXPO 3 Leo Whalen is Honored For Distinguished Service The Rubber Division honored long-time member Leo Whalen with the Arnold Smith Special Service Award at the Thursday Business & Awards meeting. Whalen was active in various capacities with the Division, as well as numerous rubber groups. He began his career in the technical service department for the Rubber Chemicals Division of Phillips Petroleum in Akron after graduating from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, OH. He later moved to Trenton, NJ, in a sales capacity for Phillips. He joined Hardman as the product manager for liquid elastomers in 1970 before becoming midwest district sales manager for Wyrough & Loser in 1973. He was promoted to vice president of marketing at Wyrough & Loser in 1982, and to executive vice president and general manager in 1986. He moved to Rubber Research Elastomerics, Minneapolis, MN, in 1987 as the vice president of marketing. In 1988, he joined Barbe America, Flowery Branch, GA, as executive vice president and general manager. He retired from Barbe America in 1999. Over the years, he has been a member of the Philadelphia, New York, Blue Ridge, Chicago, Ft. Wayne, Twin Cities, Midwestern, West Michigan, Wisconsin, Central Illinois and Southern Rubber Groups. He was the president of the Chicago Rubber Group in 1982, and was a founding member of the Wisconsin Rubber Group. Whalen’s activities with the Rubber Division centered around local arrangements for Division meetings. He was LAC chair for the 1982 Chicago, IL, and 1993 Orlando, FL, meetings. He was publicity chair for the 1992 Nashville, TN, meeting, and housing chair for both the 1999 Leo Whalen (l) receives his plaque from Division Orlando meeting and the 2002 Savannah, GA, meeting. Chair Al Feit Centennial Sponsors Recognized The Rubber Division recognized the Centennial Sponsors for the 2009 100th anniversary activities. Chair Al Feit presented certificates at the Business & Awards Meeting. Feit is on the right in every photo.
