Ready for the big one?
On the upcoming 200th anniversary of the great New Madrid earthquake, Missouri’s insurance director says most homeowners today would not be adequately protected. John M. Huff, director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, says the number of consumers with earthquake coverage has decreased sharply over the past 10 years partly due to the rising cost of insurance. Most policies do not cover earthquake damage. Instead, consumers need to buy an endorsement, sometimes called a rider, on their homeowners policy. Be sure to check with your local insurance provider on their earthquake policies. Visit www.insurance.mo.gov for more information or call 800-7267390.

Transportation estimated the cost to clean up after the historic storm at $7.7 million, which includes labor, equipment and materials. More than 2,500 employees and 1,600 pieces of equipment were used to clear the state’s 32,000-plus-mile highway system. Workers put in 90,000 hours and used in excess of 30,000 tons of salt and other abrasive materials while plow trucks logged 1.1 million miles.

Me Thing,” this year’s fair will once again be the highlight of the summer for many Missourians. The opening day “Two Buck Bonanza,” where admission is only $2, will kick off 11 days of activities, concerts, displays and livestock judging. Major acts, including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Doobie Brothers, Jason Aldean and Jerrod Niemann have already been announced for shows at the Pepsi Grandstand. The popular Country Gold Tour also returns along with a monster truck show and a truck and tractor pull. For information on fair schedules, tickets and more concert updates, visit www.mostatefair.com or call 800-422-3247.
Learn to paddle...fish

For more information on the sport and MDC’s clinics, call 660-530-5500 or visit www.mdc.mo.gov and search “paddlefish.”
