the sea bass running a close second.
"My father loved smothered steaks. He worked at DuPont Powder Company,"
she adds. "So our DuPont is a steak covered in mushrooms and onions with
cheese melted over the top. It's a special nod to Pop and DuPont."
Side dishes are also a la carte. Offerings include items such as roasted Brussels sprouts, housemade onion rings, smoked Gouda twice-baked potatoes or
Wilder's signature Truffled Five-Cheese Macaroni. Fair warning: there's enough
of the baked macaroni dish to share, but you may regret giving any away.
The guestbook shows visitors have been to Wilder's from numerous countries
and every state in the U.S. Those traveling Route 66 tend to find Wilder's since
it's not far off the highway.
"We knew when we bought this place that we wanted to be stewards of Wilder's," says Marsha. "When you have a sign as beautiful as the one outside, you
don't change the name. We truly feel we're just caretakers here."
