Rural Missouri - May 2017 - 28
2017 Photo Contest
Enter for a chance to win a $500
Missouri State Parks Getaway
or 100 years, Missourians have enjoyed
what is arguably one of the nation's best
state park systems. Last year, a record 21.2
million people visited state parks and historic sites scattered across the Show-Me State.
Reasons to visit state parks are many: They highlight Missouri's natural beauty and allow people to
get outdoors. They preserve the state's diverse cultural resources. And they are free to visit thanks
to citizen support through a recently renewed onetenth of 1 percent sales tax that ensures future generations will continue to enjoy these treasures.
As the centennial celebration continues this
year, Rural Missouri is honored to welcome Missouri
State Parks back as a sponsor of the 7th annual
Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest. We're excited to
see how our readers and others chronicle vacations
and day trips to Missouri's state parks and historic
sites, most of which are served by electric cooperatives.
We hope you'll use this contest to explore the
parks and take advantage of their Centennial Passport program. If you can complete the benefit-rich
task of visiting the 88 state parks and historic sites
by Oct. 31, you'll be entered to win one of five Missouri State Parks vacation packages. Additionally,
the first 1,000 people to fill up their printed passport will receive a special Centennial backpack.
Open to amateur photographers of all ages, this
year's contest features six categories, including a
trio of new ones. The "Where are You?" category
encourages parkgoers to capture a creative, unique
selfie of themselves. "Dusk to Dawn" entries will
showcase all there is to do at Missouri's State Parks
after the sun goes down. Photographers are encouraged to recreate classic family photos - entering
both the new and old snapshot - at state parks in
the "100 Years - Recreating the Past" category.
All photos must be entered online at www.
ruralmissouri.coop/photocontest.php. A total of 10
semifinalists will be selected in each category. The
first-, second- and third-place photographs will be
published in the January 2018 issue of Rural Missouri. The remaining semifinalists will appear in an
online gallery inside the magazine's digital edition.
Photographs must be taken at a Missouri state
park or historic site. Entries will be judged on sharpness, composition, lighting, creativity and adherence to the category's theme. Deadline to enter is
Oct. 31, 2017. Questions about the contest may be
sent to email@example.com.
