issourians like to make memories. And
why shouldn't they? For more than
a century, they've enjoyed one of the
nation's best state park systems. In
2017, more than 21 million people visited the parks
and historic sites scattered across Missouri.
The park system highlights the natural beauty of
our state and connects our citizens and guests to
the great outdoors. The parks and historic sites also
help preserve the state's diverse cultural resources
that are enjoyed by all. And best of all, the state
parks are free to visit thanks to the citizen-supported one-tenth of 1 percent sales tax that ensures
future generations will enjoy Missouri's treasures.
Once again, Rural Missouri is honored to welcome Missouri State Parks back as the sponsor of
the 8th annual Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest.
Year after year our judges are amazed to see the
photos taken and memories made by Rural Missouri
readers during their trips to Missouri state parks
and historic sites, most of which are served by Missouri's electric cooperatives.
Open to amateur photographers of all ages, this
contest features five categories. Contest staples
such as the popular "Capture The Beauty" - which
garnered nearly 600 entries in 2017 - are back.
We've also added "Making Memories" to the mix this
year to showcase those special moments at state
parks that linger on long after you depart the park.
All photos must be entered online at www.
ruralmissouri.coop/photocontest.php. A total of 10
semifinalists will be selected in each category. The
first-, second- and third-place photographs will be
published in the January 2019 issue of Rural Missouri. The remaining semifinalists will appear in an
online gallery on the magazine's website.
First-place winners will receive a Missouri State
Park Getaway Package valued at $500. Second- and
third-place winners will receive Missouri State Park
gift cards valued at $100 and $50, respectively.
New this year are mini-sweepstakes held during the entry period awarding prizes such as selfie sticks, books and more to a randomly selected
photo in each category. Details will be posted to the
Rural Missouri Facebook page beginning in May.
Photographs must be taken at a Missouri state
park or historic site. Entries will be judged on sharpness, composition, lighting, creativity and adherence to the category's theme. Deadline to enter is
