the emission legislation. Amongst others, the nitrogen
oxides in the exhaust gas have to be reduced. This can
be done by SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), a
worldwide applied technology. As SCR catalysts need
the additional reducing agent DEF, an aqueous urea
solution, all SCR systems require a urea dosing system
as their central element. The agent can be injected in
the exhaust gas or prepared in gaseous form before
entering the hot exhaust. The BAUMOT system is using
a unique set up, which created the necessary NH3 in a
generator outside the exhaust. The gas is then injected
into the exhaust stream and easily dispersed on the
front of the catalyst. The uniqueness of the BAUMOT
system is the very small amount of ammonia generated
based on the existing infrastructure with the liquid urea
or similar reductant. Part of the improved performance,
which is superior to the best SCR systems based on air/
liquid injection is the new frost proven reductant

The NPFLEX-LA 3D Surface Metrology Microscope
System is a true innovative tool, which provides
quantitative measurements of parts with lead angle
requirements. As the first non-contact solution to rapidly
measure and quantify lead angles, the NPFLEX-LA is

macro and micro lead, something not easily done with

excellent modulus properties when exposed to cycling
temperatures and automotive fluids. Ideal for use in

The unique chemistry that makes up BMC type materials
is reliant on low cost, plentiful inorganic ingredients
(fillers). The net result is a molding material that yields a
unique and desirable property prolife that is price stable
relative to competitive commodities. The highly filled
composition associated with BMC has allowed formulas
to be developed that include renewable feedstock
not to mention recycled/reprocessed thermoset
components. BMC binder/resin developments include
the integration of soy oil extenders and the introduction
of scrap thermoplastic materials as key components in
low profile/anti-shrink additives. BMC provides ‘green’
options to meet the challenges of a constantly changing
regulatory environment, not to mention the demands of
an ever more conscientious market place. Developed
through the combined input of the automotive
engineering, purchasing and regulatory communities,
BMC is a highly versatile molding material that is cost
effective, price stable and environmentally responsible.

It has long been recognised that soot particles produced
by engine combustion are not spherical in shape. Many
existing methods of measuring particle size assume that
particles are spherical. Although empirical calibrations
exist to infer shape and mass from a measured exhaust
particle size spectrum, these are subject to significant
assumptions which may not hold true for all combustion
regimes. Cambustion’s new Centrifugal Particle Mass
Analyzer allows the direct measurement of the particle
mass/mobility spectrum in an exhaust stream, which
can be used to calculate density and shape factor. It
also allows the collection of particles of a selected
mass for further analysis such as speciation or electron
microscopy. The ability to measure particle mass directly
will allow verification and improvement of existing and
future models for combustion particle formation. This
is of particular interest in Gasoline Direct Injection
