coating, which provides lower CO2 emissions, greater
design freedom and cost reduction through parts
consolidation. For high-strength, light-weight automotive
steel stampings used in chassis and body parts, wearresistant
coatings are applied in vacuum systems to
provide wear protection and to extend the stamping die
lifetimes. Thin film vacuum equipment is also used for
the manufacturing of: control circuits, film capacitors
(EVs, PHEVs and HEVs), power ICs (hybrids), sensors
(air bag, tire pressure, etc.), secondary batteries (EVs),
coatings for mirrors, interior lighting, lamps (LEDs
and reflectors), front grilles, touch-screen displays
used in navigations systems, and gauges. Vacuum
brazing is used to fabricate automobile radiators and
air conditioners. Vacuum leak-testing is used to test
the integrity of a wide-array of components, from tire
rims and heat exchangers, to transmissions, braking
systems, airbag inflators, and torque converters. ULVAC
will exhibit several examples of the vacuum equipment
and deposition processes used in advanced, in-vehicle
product solutions.

US Department of Transportation
U.S. DOT is exploring the development and of a
fully connected transportation system that is based
on wireless communication between all vehicles
on the road the surrounding infrastructure such as
traffic signals, work zones and grade crossings.
The technology has tremendous implications for
vehicle safety. According to the National Highway
Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA)
connected vehicle technology has the potential to
address 81 percent of unimpaired vehicle crashes
and 72 percent of unimpaired heavy truck accidents.
U.S. DOT’s Research and Innovative Technology
Administration (RITA) is doing the necessary research
so that NHTSA can make an informed decision about
the future of this technology in 2013. Connected
vehicles combine leading edge technologies – GPS,
Wi-Fi, wireless sensors, and dedicated short-range
communications (DSRC) using the 5.9 GHz band
allocated by the Federal Communications Commission
– to enable high-speed, real-time communication
between moving vehicles, transportation infrastructure,
and mobile devices. Exhibit will showcase the latest
information available from U.S. DOT on its connected
vehicle research initiative and showcase the Connected
Vehicle Test Bed.

tracked easily and quickly using the simple to attach
rigid bodies provided for the solution. These rigid
bodies provide the system with the known layouts of
tracking markets that can be identified by the system
in real time - very reliably and consistently. this results
in quality data without the high latency that is normally
asscoiated in immersive tracking.
