Automotive
During 2009, the global recession had a severe impact on the automotive industry, which had a corresponding impact on SAE International’s automotive sector activities. Automotive manufacturers and suppliers from around the world have been affected by the economic downturn. Besides lower sales, many are wrestling with a very weak dollar, which affects their profitability. All of SAE International’s automotive offerings were scrutinized in 2009 to ensure they provide value, are cost-effective and include the latest, relevant technology to automotive professionals. In 2009, SAE International: • Developed closer relationships with the new generation of automotive industry executives that are leading the automotive manufacturers and key suppliers. • Provided increased support to non-U.S. automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Non-U.S. automotive manufacturers and suppliers are gaining a higher market share and will become increasingly important to SAE International’s global success. • Worked toward establishing profitable and sustainable operating models in the automotive communities of China, India, Russia, Brazil, and Europe, including partnerships with other societies, private automotive organizations and governmental entities. • Took steps to become the provider of choice for automotive information globally. SAE International aggressively sought out intellectual property, including those from important technological areas such as mobility electronics and advanced propulsion.
