IMPACT The relationship between 186th Street and Toyota has blossomed beyond the SAE Foundation and AWIM. TTC supports the school’s Halloween treasure hunt, a school supply drive and anti-drug and antiviolence curriculum. Students at 186th Street are excelling under SidneyReed and the partnerships she’s fostered. Science scores are on the rise, and the school earned a California Golden Bell Award for its collaboration with Toyota. (Sidney-Reed accepted the award with the TTC’s Ogawa by her side.) The school was named a Title I Academic Achieving School and an Arts Banner School and is currently in the final stage of becoming a California Distinguished School. Sidney-Reed credits her school’s successes to strong partnerships with organizations such as the SAE Foundation and Toyota. “I don’t take these partnerships lightly,” she explains. “They are changing lives for good. They say to my children ‘I care about you, and I care about your future.’ They have made our school a better place for everyone to grow, to thrive and to excel!” 8
