SAE Foundation Annual Report 2014 - 3

As I take on my new role as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees
of the SAE Foundation, I am proud as I look back at the year of
innovation we've witnessed in both the programs and students we
support and I am heartened by what 2015 and the next five years
have to offer.
Last year, SAE developed "Making Music", a multidisciplinary
primary curriculum about sound and music. This is a critical
new step for AWIM in using the Engineering Design Experience
to explore topics covered by a multitude of industries and a
variety of subject areas. Additionally, SAE launched research into
developing curriculum that will fill the pre-K space with quality STEM experiences for our
youngest learners. When developed, SAE will stand alone as the only organization providing a
continuum of pre-K through college STEM education.
Together we celebrated with the F1 In Schools™ team Slipstream as they traveled to Abu Dhabi
for the F1 In Schools World Finals where they competed against teams from 44 other countries
and took 4th place. My hat goes off to this ambitious group of high school students from
Florida as they were not only able to design an exceptional F1 car, but market their product
and raise the funds necessary to travel to both the National Championship in Michigan and
World Finals.
It was also exciting to see so much increased interest in 2014 "green" Collegiate Design Series™
events, such as Clean Snowmobile™, Formula Hybrid™, Supermileage™, Aero Design™ and
Formula SAE Electric™, where deviation from the norm is required and vehicles that travel over
1,000 miles on one gallon of gas are possible.
Over the next year I will be leading the SAE Foundation on an aggressive new plan that will
raise the funds necessary to continue program sustainability and growth while developing
marketing efforts that truly reflect the uniqueness of our Total STEM Solution. These things
are all possible because of the strong support we receive from our corporate, foundation and
individual partners. I thank you for your past support and hope you will continue to support
the great work we are doing to create a better and brighter future.
