ADDRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF STEM EDUCATION

T

he SAE Foundation Annual
Celebration kicked off like
it has in past years-with
two elementary-aged students
poking fun at engineers and the
engineering profession. Anna Ryan
and Edward Lebsack, students
from St. Edith Elementary School,
shared that the best advice they
heard that night was "Nothing is

ever fixed enough, even if it was
working before you fixed it."
Amidst a packed room of elementary
through university students and
distinguished industry leaders,
the SAE Foundation honored
Mark Fields, President and CEO
of Ford Motor Company, with its
Industry Leadership Award. Mr.

Fields expressed his gratitude for
the award and impressed upon the
audience the need for support of
STEM programs like SAE's A World In
Motion and Collegiate Design series.
His comments were preceded by
similar comments from Michigan
Governor Rick Snyder, the first
sitting governor to attend the Annual

Celebration. Governor Snyder spoke
to the predominantly Michiganbased crowd and reiterated the
importance of a positive, productive
relationship amongst industry,
government and academia in creating
a strong, talented workforce.
The SAE Foundation will continue
to use the Annual Celebration as
a place to come together over a
single common cause-to solve the
crisis in STEM fields, and to help
address the emerging shortage of
workers in the skilled trades.

Nearly 500 STEM advocates
attended the event, raising
more than $435,000 to help
inspire young people and build
a STEM-educated workforce.
