Global President’s Message Bruno Beral Application Development Engineering Senior Expert 3M Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Division, 3M Beauchamp bberal@mmm.com On May 6th at Long Beach, the SAMPE International Board of Directors voted to create the new SAMPE Global Executive Cabinet and Global Board of Directors covering the three major regions (North America, Europe and Japan) and all independent chapters and clubs existing around the world. It is a tremendous change in the SAMPE governance! This move has been prepared during the last two years by an international group of SAMPE volunteers working hard to design this new governance model and to write the associated documents. As a member of this group, I can testify the strong involvement and dedication of all the members to build this evolution of the SAMPE organization, to better answer to the global market development and also to the members’ expectations. I take this opportunity to warmly thank all the members of this group for their full engagement and particularly Brent Strong, our task force chair, who drove and facilitated the discussions to finalise in time all the needed documents before the vote. The new Global SAMPE Board of Directors is now created and the Global Executive Cabinet members identified. Sakuya Iwai, Immediate Past President; Tony Vizzini, Executive Vice President; Gregg Balko, Secretary; Paolo Ermanni, President Europe; Takashi Ishikawa, President Japan; and Paul Wienhold, President North America join me as members of the Global Executive Cabinet. During the last 25 years, I served SAMPE as a member, President of the French Chapter and SAMPE Europe President. Today, I am very proud to serve you as first SAMPE Global President. It is an honour to lead this new Global organisation. I have no doubt about the success of the new governance. The new Global Executive Cabinet is more than a Board; it’s already a team. We have already worked together during the last years. Promoting SAMPE is our common goal. Our objectives are to reinforce and to promote the technical excellence brand of the SAMPE at Global level and to answer to our members needs in term of knowledge sharing and networking development at international level. We also want to contribute to the innovation of materials and processes. Our challenges are building a more creative and powerful structure promoting opportunities of strategic exchange between business and academia’s actors, developing sponsorship with industrial companies, and supporting international exchange to reinforce our role of innovation facilitator within the materials & processes community. For sure, the first year will be focused on the consolidation of the new structure as well as the design and the launch of new Global projects. The first meeting of the Global Executive Cabinet will be held in September 2013 during the SAMPE Europe SETEC Conference at Wuppertal (Germany). The expected outcomes are the validation of our strategy for the coming years and the definition of the road map for the development of our association. The new Global governance is now set up and I’m convinced that achieving our objectives and challenges will result in a “Global” team and not a “one man success”. I am confident in the full support of the Global Directors to strengthen this new organisation. As member, I hope the new SAMPE structure will bring you a lot of opportunities through a truly professional and attractive source of interest on innovative technical solutions. The composites world is a global business covering a large spectrum of industries and growing continuously. SAMPE is becoming a Global organisation to perpetuate its future and to continue to growth.
