SAMPE Europe Conference 15, Amiens France - Unfinished Business
Just prior to the previously reported main event, a highly successful students conference and competition took place at the
Amiens Ibis hotel. These student event objectives are to introduce M&P students to SAMPE, develop a future generation
of SAMPE members, as well as create the nucleus of a future M&P network in Europe.
SAMPE Europe student conference coordinator Adrie Kwakernaak reports that the event, previously held during our spring
conference in Paris, has been moved to coincide with the main SAMPE Europe International Technical Conference held in
September. The SAMPE EUROPE STUDENTS GRANT covers recipients' travel, board and lodging costs, and includes attendance at the main SAMPE Europe conference. The student winning the competition received the Schliekelmann Award, to
participate in the Student Symposium held October 26-29, 2015, during CAMX, in Dallas Texas, USA.
The International Students Seminar began with a welcome dinner on Sunday, 13 September, followed by their individual
presentations on Monday and Tuesday. The winning student was Arthur Babeau of the École Central de Nantes, France. His
topic was "The Modeling of Thermoplastic Composites Pultrusion". He noted that thermoset pultrusion is a relatively mature
technology, however the higher viscosity of thermoplastic resins requires a thorough understanding of the impregnation
step to limit void formation.
All student project posters were on display in the exhibit area during the main technical conference at the Mégacité Expo
and Conference Center and received considerable attention. SAMPE Europe's International Student Seminar for 2016 is
slated to take place in Liege, Belgium, together with SAMPE Europe's Conference 2016.

Update on the UK and Ireland Chapter Annual Seminar and SME Table Top Exhibition

As briefly announced in the previous Journal issue, this event is slated for 25 February, at the National College for Teaching
and Learning, University of Nottingham. The theme will be "Breakthrough Technologies for the Automated Manufacture
of Advanced Composites". Such technologies do not occur overnight. Long term development programs for materials and
processes have resulted in methods and products offering high performance, cost-effective solutions.
Sponsored by Ten Cate Advanced Composites Ltd and supported by the University of Nottingham, this seminar will highlight
some of these breakthrough technologies. Innovators in key sectors of the advanced composites industry, such as ACCIS,
Eurocarbon, Fokker, GE Aviation, Rolls-Royce and sponsors TCAC have been invited to make presentations. Thermoplastics
in aerospace and preforms for the aerospace and automotive industries are examples of the topics that will be covered in
the presentations.

our table-top exhibition for SME's. This is the seventh year we will be offering places to SME's and will interest companies
wanting to promote their breakthrough technologies. The previous events have shown the value of these seminars as a great
