The Society for the Advancement of
Material and Process Engineers (SAMPE)
has bestowed its highest honor, the
George Lubin Memorial Award, to
Dr. John J. Tracy, Chief Technology
Officer of The Boeing Company.
Recipients of the George Lubin
Memorial Award are recognized
for having made significant
contributions in the field of material
and process engineering. This
year, the Lubin Award recognizes
SAMPE member Dr. Tracy for
his pioneering work realizing the
promise of composites materials
in the implementation of advanced
composites in primary structures.
Dr. Tracy is credited with leading the
Boeing team through most of the
development of the revolutionary
787 Dreamliner. Additionally, Dr.
Tracy led the engineering team
in the production of the X-37
experimental 30-foot
unmanned space
plane, the first reusable
spacecraft since
the Space Shuttle.
He also provided
technical leadership
to the production of
the Phantom Eye, a
hydrogen-powered,
150-foot unmanned
demonstrator aircraft.
"In all of these projects
and throughout his entire
career, Dr. Tracy was
committed to the idea
that composites would
enable valuable and
innovative new products.
Certainly John Tracy is
the embodiment of the
spirit behind the creation
of the George Lubin
Memorial Award," said
Gregg Balko, SAMPE's
CEO.
SAMPE will present this
award to Dr. Tracy on
Monday, September 26,
at the Anaheim Marriott
Hotel as part of CAMX
- The Composites and
Advanced Materials Expo.
