SAMPE Fellows
Class of 2016
Each year, SAMPE recognizes individuals for their significant contributions to the materials
and processes community. In 33 years, 150 SAMPE members have been honored with
the designation of SAMPE Fellow. This year, SAMPE is pleased to welcome three new
members.
The 2016 SAMPE Fellows will be honored at a special Award Ceremony on Monday
evening, September 26 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. This event will take place during
CAMX-The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo in Anaheim California, September 26-29, 2016. Please join
us as we celebrate their accomplishments.
Citation
Prof. Paolo Ermanni is a recognized leader in the advanced composite research. His research
bridges material science and engineering applications, covering design, modeling and fabrication
of adaptive material systems and lightweight structures. In the past decade Prof. Ermanni has
continuously increased his international visibility in the synthesis, optimization and fabrication
of advanced structures, smart materials and structures, intelligent fabrication processes for
high performance composites. Since 1998 he has served SAMPE as Chairman of the Swiss
chapter, member of the scientific committee of the SEICO conference in Paris, and SAMPE
Europe President.
Citation
Mr. Michael Maher is recognized for his exceptional contributions to advanced composites in
the areas of, composite repair, composite manufacturing, quality assurance testing and analysis,
and the effects of defects. Mr. Maher has worked to develop new methods to analyze composite
parts and implement quality assurance methodology that allows existing composite unmanned aerial
vehicles (UAVs) and aircraft to remain operable. His technical presence in the field of composites
with respect to advanced testing and manufacturing methodology, innovative composite material
solutions and his significant contributions to SAMPE are exemplary and worthy of recognition.
Citation
Dr. Zhongmin Xue is a distinguished leader in technology development, implementation, and
international collaboration in the field of composite materials and processes for aerospace and
industry applications. As an excellent leader in the Chinese composite material industry and an
international ambassador, Dr. Xue is truly passionate about developing future engineers and
scientists, and he certainly has contributed significantly to SAMPE's global and educational
outreach effort.
