Between record-setting delegate attendance in February and the NCAA® Men’s Final Four in April, San Antonio has been bustling with activity. Though the shortest month of the year, February 2008 was a record-setting month. San Antonio welcomed more than 100,000 delegates—the most ever hosted during a one month period in the history of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Big conventions for the month included the American Academy of Dermatology with about 16,000 delegates and the Texas Music Educators Association with over 23,000 delegates, among others. March was also a successful month for San Antonio as the city hosted the 2008 Annual National Convention for the SAS Global Forum with 3,500 attendees as well as the 2008 International Petrochemical Conference for the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association with more than 3,600 attendees. On April 5th and 7th, San Antonio’s Alamodome was rockin’ with more than 88,000 college basketball fans who watched as the final four teams in the NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament contended for a shot at the National Championship game. When asked how he would grade the city as the championship’s host, Tom O’Conner, Chairman of the NCAA Committee, responded “A+ with a gold star.” San Antonio has long been hailed as the ideal location to I have used San Antonio in previous years, and always found it to be a great draw for attendees. There is lots to do and the services are fantastic. We were very pleased with the event management, catering, and AV services. Everything went very smoothly which makes planners’ efforts so much better! -Diane Marshburn, Meeting Planner, SAS Global Forum host these events due to its compact, walkable footprint that includes the Alamodome, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, River Walk, hotels, restaurants and more. “A+ with a gold star.” ~Tom O’Conner, Chairman of the NCAA Committee Round things out with the city’s famed Fiesta celebration at the end of April where more than 100 events (including parades, festivals and galas.) brought in thousands of attendees—and you’ll understand the scale upon which San Antonio is able to accommodate any event! I commend the San Antonio CVB's housing staff on performing at a tremendous level for NACS. I could write comments in this area all day and still not express my level of appreciation for their fantastic job. They excelled under extreme pressure and in a short amount of time. -Hugh Easley, Vice President of Meetings & Expositions, National Association of College Stores SAS Global Forum Group 2008 Final Four events at the Alamodome visitsanantonio.com http://visitsanantonio.com http://visitsanantonio.com http://visitsanantonio.com
