For the freshest in organic produce and more, visit a local farmers market Sample an array of Santa Cruz Mountain wines in a cozy mountain tasting room, quaint creekside setting or hip downtown hotspot. Stop at an organic deli for a picnic basket lunch, then head to a scenic state park for the afternoon. Relax with friends over a steaming latte at a local coffeehouse and hang out with the locals. Ask for a children’s menu, and kids can always find something they like. If dining is your form of adventure, opt for a lobster feed, cowboy barbecue, clam chowder or strawberry festival, or winemakers dinner. Stretch your legs at a u-pick farm on the north coast as you fill your basket with ruby red strawberries, olallieberries and kiwi. Not a fan of meat? Several eateries serve up animal-friendly fare, including vegan hot dogs, garden burgers, tofurkey and other choices. Relax on the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History’s rooftop Sculpture Garden and admire large scale pieces in granite, clay and other mediums. Stop by the San Lorenzo Valley Museum for a detailed look at the area’s colorful history. Ask at the visitor center for self-guided walking tour maps of Capitola Village, Downtown Santa Cruz, Boulder Creek or Pajaro Valley and Watsonville and view historic buildings and architecture. Enjoy a live performance of the Santa Cruz County Symphony at the Mello Center in Watsonville, or score tickets to the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Cabrillo Stage, or the Open Studios Art Tour. Visit the Pajaro Valley Arts Council’s gallery and view fine art, history, and culture.
