Today, Scotts Valley’s rich history mixes with modern technology. With a history spanning more than 150 years, Scotts Valley was once a stagecoach stop between San Jose and Santa Cruz. Today, it still serves as a vacation spot for both leisure and business travelers. The Hiram D. Scott House, built the in 1853, is situated behind City Hall, and is a Santa Cruz County Historical Trust Landmark, in addition to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The peace and charm of life in Scotts Valley serve in harmony with the town’s businesses. Tucked behind trees and stylish landscaping, the high-tech business world co-exists quietly and unobtrusively with family life. Innovation, growth and commerce are masterfully blended with small-town charm and a strong sense of community, providing a welcoming atmosphere for families and visitors alike. This family-friendly atmosphere even attracted celebrated movie director Alfred Hitchcock, Scotts Valley’s most famous resident. The Hitchcock family lived in a mountaintop estate for three decades beginning in 1940. More recent film projects have taken place in nearby state parks, utilizing Scotts Valley as a hub for the cast and crew.
