A very tough perennial that’s drought, heat, and salt tolerant. Use as an edging, in a rock garden, or in the front of a border. Named by Steve Schmidt. Silvery-blue foliage forms a small, dense mound with flower spikes reaching a foot above the foliage. Prefers loose, welldraining soil in cool, coastal areas (northern climates). Festuca scoparia ‘Hobbit’ Bearskin fescue is a cool-season, very densely tufted, clump-forming dwarf bunchgrass with soft, emerald-green foliage that remains evergreen throughout the year. Excellent in a well-draining rock garden. Not suitable for areas where summers are hot and humid, but is considered drought tolerant in cooler climates. Dense, hairy green grass grows low to the ground. Flowers in June.
