Height 18–24" Spacing 12–18" Zones 3–9 SED-NEO $5.99 Twin-flowered agave D Agave geminiflora The twin-flowered agave grows very symmetrically—in a 3' by 3' rosette shape. Flowers are grouped 2 per bract along the spike, which accounts for its common name. The leaves are dark green and at 1⁄4" wide are smaller than most agaves. Unlike most agaves, the leaves on this one are unarmed, so it can be planted where there is a little pedestrian traffic. When grown in full sun the leaves will be stiff; when in shade the leaves will be a bit more relaxed. Like most desert plants, this one prefers a welldraining soil and can survive with little water. The lifespan of twin-flowered agave is generally 10 years; after this, the plant sends up a tall flower stalk, carrying yellow flowers with a hint of red. The plant will experience some frost damage at 25°F. In colder climates it is best to plant in containers that can be moved to protected areas in the winter.
