Unleash the 2007 social season with the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s UnGala Gala on Saturday, October 20, from 6pm to midnight. As usual, this highly anticipated fundraiser event is leaving guests unable to wait for this unconventional festive atmosphere that is unlike any other black-tie affair. Unbelievable special performances are to be expected in the museum’s courtyard. This year’s UnGala is a celebration of the restorations and additions made to the already breathtaking museum. This year’s UnGala co-chairs Beth Cannata and Chris Romine are eager to share the rebirth of this spectacular complex with the museum’s supporters, as their aid is an essential part of the five-year transformation plan. Last year, the UnGala generated $200,000 for greater educational programming and traveling exhibitions to the museum. This year, philanthropic hopefuls aim to exponentially exceed that amount, through corporate sponsorships, individual tickets and raffle ticket purchases. As always, the UnGala’s theme will be unveiled as the guests arrive in the courtyard. Last year, guests embarked on an unanticipated journey to the Far East, indulging in sake served by geishas, visually feasting on dancing dragons and dancing to Japanese Taiko drumming. This year, expect to be dazzled by the committee’s hint of “looking to the Mediterranean for inspiration.” Attendees can expect the finest catering by Mattison’s Culinary Group and the utmost of bar services by the Longboat Key Club. Eat, drink, mingle and dance under the starry skies in the enchanting courtyard of the Ringling Museum. The 2007 UnGala is by invitation only and several levels of sponsorship are still available, offering the best seats in the house. Individual tickets are $250. Invitations will be mailed mid-September.
