Take Piero Rivolta: visionary designer of cars, boats and buildings, patron of the arts, novelist and poet. His imprint on the landscape of Sarasota County has been huge due to such residential and commercial developments as The Oaks, Longwood Run, the Center Pointe Office Building, the Parkway Collection Shopping Center and, most recently, Rivo Ringling, an elegant condo tower on Main Street. Because of a passion for music, he founded La Musica, which has become a world-renowned chamber music festival. As a novelist and poet, he is about to publish his second novel, Alex and the Color of the Wind, this February. Prodigious as his talent and influence are, they represent only a fraction of the creative genius of the Rivolta family. Piero’s wife Rachele is a painter of landscapes and nature scenes. His son Renzo designs boats and buildings with Piero, and has just completed his first large-scale piece of sculpture. Meanwhile, Piero’s daughter Marella and her husband, Andrea Zagato, jointly manage Zagato, an international design and engineering consultant company in Italy that creates prototypes for car makers such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Toyota.
