It took 39 minutes for the train to cover the 84km between the two cities - a journey that used to take almost an hour. This was just one of hundreds of services across China to benefit from the sixth national speed-up, which takes the country’s network of 200km/h lines to more than 6000km. Nationwide, 140 train pairs now operate at 200km/h or more, and this is expected to increase to 257 train pairs by the end of this year. Officials from the Ministry of Railways (MOR) say that 850km of track covering 18 main lines has now 26 IRJ August 2007
