Bisso Marine launches four tugs Bisso Marine mobilized the 700-ton capacity derrick barge Cappy Bisso to Gulfport, Miss., to launch four newly built tractor-type tugs. All four tugs, being constructed at Edison Chouest’s Gulf Ship facility in Gulfport, are identical, weighing 650 tons. According to ECO Operations Coordinator Roy Cheramie, another four tugs have been contracted for a nearby operation. This is understood to be ExxonMobil Corp.’s Golden Pass LNG terminal. The first three Sabine Pass tugs were scheduled for delivery in Decemeber, with the fourth to be delivered shortly after. The Golden Pass tugs are contracted for a March 2009 delivery. P Named Perseverance, the floating dry dock, is capable of lifting vessels more than 150 feet long, up to 62 feet wide and with a maximum draft of 14 feet. The rated capacity is 1,000 tons and it is well suited for drydocking tugs, barges and interisland ferries. The first vessel to undergo extensive work at the dry dock was the M/V Roanoke, an interisland car carrying ferry that operates in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The work included structural repairs to the vessel’s bottom and running gear, changing out and upgrading all three of her main engines and cleaning and preservation of the bottom. The dry dock is a spin-off of San Juan Towing & Marine Services, Inc., a ship repair and marine problem-solving company that has been servicing commercial vessels afloat for more than 10 years. The dry dock is located astride the main shipping lanes in the Caribbean providing easy access to vessels in the region. Claims dismissed in Prestige suit Reuters reports that U.S. District U.S. District Court Judge Laura Swain has dismissed damage claims filed by Spain against classification society ABS in relation to the 2002 loss of the tanker Prestige. ABS argued that it was protected from Spain’s pollution damage claims under the rules of the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC)exempts third parties unless they acted recklessly. “Spain, as a signatory to the CLC, is bound by CLC’s provisions and, therefore, must pursue its claims under that convention in its own courts,” the judge ruled.
