Todd Shipyards Corp., Seattle, Wash., announced last week that its wholly owned subsidiary, Todd Pacific Shipyards Corporation has signed a contract with the Washington State Ferries, a division of the Washington State Transportation Department (WSF), for the design phase of the project to build up to four 144-vehicle ferries. The design contract is a firm fixed price contract for $2,369,561 with a duration of nine months. Once the design is completed the parties will negotiate the price and delivery schedule for construction of the ferries. Derecktor delivers fast fireboat Derecktor Shipyards, Bridgeport, Conn., recently delivered the 66 ft, waterjetpropelled fireboat Independence to the City of Philadelphia. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., the Independence is a quick responder; it can reach speeds of 36 knots thanks to a propulsion package of four MTU Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines that drive four Hamilton Jet model HJ403 waterjets via ZF marine gears. Completing the propulsion package are marine clutches from Twin Disc, Cardan hafts from Driveline and couplings from Vulkan. The vessel has a 5,500 gal/min pump capacity and 200 gal foam tank. www.marinelog.com $2.37m http://www.marinelog.com http://www.marinelog.com http://www.marinelog.com
