Marine Log - January 2009 - (Page 12) Arlington, Va. Jan. 27-28 CONFERENCE SESSIONS Maritime and port security could take a whole new direction this fall following the Presidential election. For instance, the two major Presidential candidates have very different voting records on port security funding. A new Administration means new faces, new power centers and new policies. At Marine Log’s Maritime & Port Security 2009 Conference & Expo, you’ll learn first hand what’s what from our very plugged-in panelists. A hot topic will be container security. Expect a new push on the "Scan Every Box" requirement. It was a great slogan, but is it really feasible? We'll consider what's happening to moderate this mandate and put something just as effective, but more workable in its place. Unfortunately, Coalition Naval Forces have thus far proven better at photographing Somali pirates than sinking them. We'll component of the conference will consist of sharing experiences in meeting maritime security compliance requirements— including unexpected ones. THE EXPO The Expo accompanying the event will showcase the latest technologies available in the transportation security market. Be sure to visit our exhibitors during the breaks. Politics, ports, piracy & painsin-the-neck look at the extent of the threat off the Horn of Africa, what shipowners are being advised to do, what they can legally do to protect themselves—and if worst comes to worst—what's involved in hostage negotiations. And, nobody said that compliance would be a joy. But there are steps you can take to avoid needless headaches. A major Corporate Sponsor Supporting Organizations http://www.marinelog.com
