Marine Log - January 2009 - (Page 21) Technews GE to supply engines for newbuilds, repowers GE Transportation will supply seven L250 inline diesel engines for three separate projects. The first contract—for four L250 engines—will go to New Orleans- based Crescent Towing. The two sixcylinder L250 diesels will each power two new 91 ft tugboats. The second contract is for two L250 diesels that GE diesel engine distributor Motor Services Hugo Stamp, Inc. (MSHS), Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. will use to replace the engines on Cross Sound Ferry’s John H. Under a third contract, GE will supply Dredging Supply, Reserve, La., with one L250 Generator set. The fourth contract marks a milestone for GE. It will be the first time one of its engines has been supplied to an inland marine towboat company. Nashville-based Ingram Barge Company will use two V250 engines. Each rated at 3,655 hp at 900 rev/min, to repower the company’s towboat, the M/V Eastern Star. Crescent Towing will also be supplied with two eightcylinder V228 diesel engines by GE. The engine will be used to repower the tugboat the Mississippi.
