Marine Log - January 2009 - (Page 9) Update New York Water Taxi takes delivery of fifth catamaran ladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Somerset, Mass., has delivered its fifth high-speed water taxi to Brooklyn-based New York Water Taxi. The Gene Flatow, an allaluminum, “taxi” yellow catamaran was designed by ABB wins six offshore contracts ABB recently won six contracts to supply main electrical systems for drilling rigs and drill ships being built in Korea and Singapore. The drillships are being constructed at three different shipyards. Three of the deepwater drilling rigs are currently being built at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. While two drill-ships are undergoing construction at Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries. The final drill ship in the contract is being built by Korean-based Hyundai Heavy Industries. ABB will supply the contracts with the complete electrical system including generators, medium and low voltage power distribution, thrust drive systems, drilling drive system and related engineering and services. G Australia’s Incat Crowther and measures 75 ft in length and 27.3 ft wide. Certified to carry 149 passengers, and reach speeds of 27 knots, the vessel is powered by twin Cummins QSK 19-m diesel engines, each rated at 800 bhp at 2,100 rev/min. The engines burn less than .02 gal per passenger per mile, exceeding the latest EPA standards.
