Marine Log - February 2008 - (Page 45) Newsmakers Marcus Jones IMarEST Brian Mannelly Port of Tacoma John Ara Crowley Maritime JOHN FREDRIKSEN, CHAIRMAN AND president of Frontline Ltd., has been named as the Connecticut Maritime Association’s (CMA’s) Commodore for 2008. The award will be presented to Fredriksen in Stamford, Conn., on March 19. Marcus Jones has joined the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and ) Technology (IMarEST), London, as its first Chief Operating Officer. Jones was previously with Lloyd’s Register, where he was responsible for a £50m global oil and gas business. Peter Shaerf has been elected the new chairman of the board of NYMAR, New York, N.Y. Shaerf is currently the managing director of investment house AMA Capital Partners LLC. He is also director of General Maritime Corp, Seaspan Corporation and TBS International. Brian Mannelly has been promoted to director of Port Planning for the Port of Tacoma, Tacoma, Wash. Mannelly joined the port in 2005. In his new position he will oversee Port capital improvement projects, including terminal design and facilities development and is responsible for long-range port planning, road and rail system planning and policy coordination with other municipal, state and tribal planning officials. In other Port of Tacoma news, David Myers has been promoted to the position of senior project manager, responsible for capital projects related to redevelopment of the Blair-Hylebos Peninsula. Atte Palomäki has been appointed group vice president, Corporate Communications for Wärtsilä Corporation, Finland. In this new position Palomäki becomes a member of the Wärtsilä board of management and reports to president and CEO, Ole Johansson. Crowley Maritime Corporation , Jacksonville, Fla., announced the promotion of John Ara to vice president of the company's Atlantic/Gulf Coast commercial and marine operations business. Ara will now have commercial responsibility for contract services, as well as Gulf Coast marine operations. Terry Hines has been named charter marketing director for the International Yacht Collection, LLC., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Hines, has over 25 years’ experience in the charter yacht industry. She is responisible for expanding IYC’s charter fleet. In addition, she will be managing the vessels’ images on the market and the charter schedules. ABS, Houston, Tex. has appointed Anjum M. Shah to the position of country manager for Nigeria, replacing Piotr Bialonoga who will be heading home to Poland to replace the retiring Ake Dahl as country manager.
