Haki’s new lightweight scaffolding system Sweden-based Haki AB’s unveiled a lightweight steel scaffolding system that can be suspended and connected anywhere and in any direction, providing flexibility. The design allows for faster assembly, as well as a reduced need for dockside support, resulting in lower costs and more flexibility for the shipyards. All beams and guardrails are supplied with spring locking catches and are made of high tensile steel, resulting in up to 20% lower weight for the same strength. The weight-savings on the stairtower components are even more significant: 30% of the weight could be saved here, thanks to an innovative design and clever choice of material. www.haki.se Carrier Transicold’s GREEN trio Carrier Transicold’s Container Products Group, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, unveiled a trio of environmentally friendly refrigeration products designed to help shipping lines be more competitive and achieve energy savings. The “green trio” consists of the Quest energy-saving mode, the eAutoFresh and the PrimeLine unit. The Quest energy-saving mode is a software-based control option for Carrier Transicold refrigeration units that cycles refrigeration on and off based on temperature. The eAuto Fresh on-demand ventilation is designed for certain perishable commodities. The PrimeLine unit reduces enviromental impact and lifecycle cost. According to senior product manager, Jim Taeckens, “The PrimeLINE unit’s exceptional efficiency results in a lifecycle cost that is up to 30% lower than all competitive units.” The PrimeLine unit’s reduced power requirements also help conserve fuel, reduce emissions and it uses an environmentally sound refrigerant. It has one of the highest deep-frozen capacities of any unit with R-134, which has the lowest global warming potential and is the standard refrigerant throughout Carrier’s container product line. www.container.carrier.com WSF and Parsons kick off Wi-Fi service Washington State Ferries, Seattle, Wash., along with Parsons, Pasadena, Calif., recently launched Wi-Fi service on the Seattle/Bremerton route. Three other routes are currently on-line as well, they are: the Seattle-Bainbridge, Edmonds-Kingston and Mukilteo-Clinton routes. The new expanded Wi-Fi system provides broader, faster and more consistent internet access everywhere on board. The fee-based service has three available rate plans: the monthly is $29.95, with the exception of the first month which is $14.95. There is also a daily access plan for $6.95 and a one time use plan that charges $2.95 for the first 15 minutes and then 25 cents for each additional minute.
