Marine Log - February 2008 - (Page 8) Update More INLS work for Marinette Marine The U.S. Naval Engineering Command, Washington, D.C., recently exercised an option valued at $65.3 million with Marinette Marine, Marinette, Wis., to acquire the remaining watercraft to be built under option three of the Improved Navy Lighterage System (INLS). This option is for 35 watercraft, including eight causeway ferries, four warping tugboats, and one Roll On/Roll Off Discharge facility. With the exercise of this option, the total cumulative contract value increases to $333,568,250. The work is scheduled to be completed by Marinette Marine in May 2010. INLS is a modular floating platform used to offload tanks, trucks, cargo and equipment from a ship at sea. The platform serves as a staging area where equipment can be loaded onto the causeway ferry. INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA More X-Bow sales for Ulstein he X-Bow has marked a sales sweet spot for Norway’s Ulstein Design. It recently signed design and equipment packages for two platform supply vessels and two seismic vessels. Ulstein will supply the design, detail documentation and main equipment packages for two Ulstein PX105 platform supply vessels (PSV’s) to Astilleros de Sevilla. The shipyard is building the two PSV’s for EDT Offshore Ltd, Cyprus, with delivery scheduled for April and August 2009. Designed with the distinctive X-Bow for improved seakeeping and fuel consumption, the 4,700 dwt PSV’s will be classed Clean Design, Comfort Class V3, DP2, with 1,000 m2 of deck space and a deck load capacity of 3,000 tonnes. The PSV’s will be 88.8m x 19m, with accommodations for 23. As part of its NOK 240 million (about $44.1 million) contract, the Ulstein Group will supply the main switch- T boards, bridge and control room consoles, Ulstein IAS integrated alarm and surveillance system, Ulstein COM and navigation equipment. Meanwhile, Ulstein Design signed a contract with Eastern Echo for delivery of two more Ulstein SX124 designs and equipment “X-ray” illustration showing the location of the thrusters, main engines and DP control system for Eastern Echo’s new seismic vessels New Houma yard Synergy Shipbuilding has leased five acres from the Port of Terrebonne in Houma, La., with the intention of building an indoor facility capable of constructing up to 330 ft platform supply vessels, reports houmatoday.com. According to the report, Bill Underwood is the owner, shipbuilding manager, CEO and president of the new firm. He reportedly plans to invest $100 million to $120 million in setting up facilities, but will start building ships this month using floating platforms. Underwood worked for Edison Chouest Offshore’s North American Shipbuilding for 12 years. Todd to acquire yard Todd Shipyards Corporation, Seattle, Wash., announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase the assets of Everett Shipyard, Inc., (ESY) Everett, Wash. ESY performs ship repair work for a range of government and commercial customers at two locations in Everett. packages. These are the fifth and sixth seismic vessels ordered by Eastern Echo, all of Ulstein SX124 type. These latest two vessels will be built at Drydocks World in Dubai. The others are under construction at Hijos de J. Barreras, S.A. in Vigo, Spain. Like the four sister vessels, these two new vessels will be equipped for 3D seismic and can have up to 12 streamer winches. Each Ulstein SX124 vessel will have a length of 88.8m, a breadth of 19m and will accommodate 69. The seismic vessels are to be delivered in March and May 2009.
