Marine Log - February 2008 - (Page 9) Aries Marine inks deal for two Tiger Shark PSVs ries Marine Corp., Lafayette, La., has inked a letter of intent with the Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, Fla., for the construction of two “Tiger Shark” class platform supply vessels. Based on an Aker Elliott Bay completes ferry design Elliott Bay Design Group, LLC, Seattle, Wash., recently completed the design for the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s New Sound Class ferry. The single-ended ferry design features a length of 220 ft, a 50 ft beam, and a fullload draft of 6 ft, 6 in. The vessels will be powered by two 1,140 bhp MTU main engines and will be capable of sustaining 12 knots. Each boat will have two 175 kW John Deere generators and a 99 kw emergency generator. Maneuvering will be enhanced by a 500 hp Omnithruster bow thruster. Each ferry will have the capacity for 300 passengers and 50 vehicles. The design was expected to go out for shipyard bids last month. Two vessels are expected to be built to this design and enter service in late 2009. A Yards Marine PSV 23 DE design, the vessels will have AC diesel-electric propulsion plant with twin Z-drives. The DP-2 offshore service vessels will meet the new IMO regulations. The PSVs, which will be 284 ft by 62 ft by 22 ft, will be capable of transporting 15,165 barrels of liquid mud, and has 10,260 ft2 of deck space. The new PSV’s will be the largest OSV’s in Aries’ Gulf of Mexico fleet. Currently, Aries has vessels ranging in size from 166 to 254 ft in length. The Tigershark PSVs will be built on the Aker Yards Marine PSV 23 DE design COSCO Shipyard wins substantial newbuild, conversion work China’s COSCO Shipyard Group has won newbuild and conversion contracts worth $422 million. Among the orders is a $171.6 million contract from a Norwegian customer for two shuttle tanker newbuilds, plus options for two more ships.
