Marine Log - February 2009 - (Page 11) Conrad launches Texas ferry onrad Industries, Morgan City, La., recently launched a new 264 ft ferry being built for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The 264 ft passenger vessel was designed by naval architecture and engineering firm Alan C. McClure Associates (ACMA), Houston, Tex. ACMA is currently in the final phases of design development for shipyard construction. The Texas Department T&T Bisso contracted to salvage Miss Janice Houston-based T & T Bisso, LLC., recently salvaged the Miss Janice, a 22 m, 1,600 hp vessel that sank in the Port of New Orleans. T&T was contracted to stabilize the fuel and lube oil in addition to removing the vessel. T&T Bisso’s 600 tonne capacity D/B Lili Bisso was used in the salvage operation. The 375 tonne Miss Janice was located in 20 m of water in the Mississippi. A still frame of Conrad launching the ferry. The ferry is expected to transport up to 500 passengers and 70 cars into and out of the Galveston terminal. GE Marine will supply two 8 cylinder V228 medi- um-speed engines. The ferry is expected to be in operation this July.
