Reporting to the SIO Associate Director, you will be responsible for a global operation that requires strong leadership, maturity and diplomacy. Supervise approximately 125 career and per diem officers, crew and shore-based staff. Plan and coordinate crewing, material logistics, vessel maintenance, and facility maintenance to support 24/7, year-round ship operations. Oversee the safety management system, develop capital and operating budgets, write proposals to Federal funding agencies, supervise regulatory compliance programs, and represent SIO Ship Operations in state, federal and international forums. Requires a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in engineering, marine engineering or related field with 8-10 years experience at sea on a merchant or military vessel as deck or engineering officer, engaged in marine research. The Ship Superintendent will perform essential duties and responsibilities personally or through coordination with production departments in our Brooklyn, New York and/or Bayonne, New Jersey location. This position requires supervisory experience. Bachelor degree in engineering and three to five years of relevant experience in ship construction or repair preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position. Dock Master Ideal candidates will be responsible for docking and undocking vessels in a safe and efficient manner. Responsibilities will include interfacing with Operations Management to schedule the docking and undocking of vessels, layout and build blocks for docking, analyze tide and wind conditions, block loading calculations for safe docking – including keeping weight logs and docking plans. This position requires extensive knowledge of New York Harbor, a minimum of 10 years working in a shipyard, and experience as a dock master working with dry docks. HSE Managers Ideal candidates will be responsible for training and coaching shipyard personnel in safe work practices, and continuously review and promote safe work practices during project activities in our Bayonne, New Jersey and/or Brooklyn, New York locations. The HSE Manager will participate in incident investigations, and follow and enforce health, safety and environmental regulations in compliance with regulatory laws. This position requires health, safety and environmental related training/certifications along with a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience. Quality Assurance Specialist Ideal candidates will be responsible for inspecting, surveying, and monitoring completion of shipyard repair work, assuring that all specifications and codes are adhered to during repair, and performing quality control inspections in our Bayonne, New Jersey location. This position requires a minimum of five years of experience in the inspection or construction of steel ships.
