Marine Log - February 2009 - (Page 9) Atlantic Marine expands with acquisitions tlantic Marine Holding Company, a portfolio company of J.F. Lehman & Co., has expanded its shipbuilding and ship repair services through two recent acquisitions. One of the acquisitions is Millennium Industrial and Marine Solutions, Inc., a steel and pipe fabrication company based in Moss Point, Miss., which specializes in on-site drill rig and offshore vessel repair and conversion. The company will now operate as Atlantic Marine Millennium. The second acquisition is Boston Ship Acquisition, LLC, which provides maintenance, repair, overhaul and conversion services for Moran to build another tug at Maine yard Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc., East Boothbay, Maine, signed a contract last month with the Moran Towing Corp., New Caanan, Conn., to build a 121 ft x 36 ft x 18 ft ocean tug. The tug, which will have an Intercon coupling system, will be the fourth vessel built by Washburn & Doughty to a design supplied Ocean Tug & Barge Engineering. Two are in service and another will be delivered in the third quarter of 2009. Propulsion for the tug will be supplied by two EMD 12-710G7CT2 main engines ,each rated at 2,550hp at 800 rev/min, with Lufkin model RHS2500HG reverse reduction gears that turn ABS grade two 10-inch diameter steel shafts, and five-blade, 115-inch Rolls Royce New Generation Workwheel propellers. A non-U.S. Navy government vessels and cruise ships and operates two large drydocks in Boston, Mass., and Philadelphia, Pa. Boston Ship Repair will operate as Atlantic Marine Boston and PennShip Service will operate as Atlantic Marine Philadelphia. Atlantic Marine Boston has a 1,176 ft x 124 ft x 44 ft graving dock with a capacity of 106,000 dwt., while Atlantic Marine Philadelphia, located at the Philadelphia Naval Yard, has 200,000 ft of warfage. “These acquisitions really provide us with an excellent opportunity to better service our customers in the Northeast,” Atlantic Marine Holding Co. vice president Herschel Vineyard told MARINE LOG. Atlantic Marine also expects to make some investments in the yards. Vineyard says that there are currently about 50 employees combined at Atlantic Marine Boston and Atlantic Marine Philadelphia and another 50 at Atlantic Marine Millennium.
