Marine Log - March 2008 - (Page 45) Maritime Replicas’ Warren Samut’s healthy obsession cuts plastic and wood, and a Fused Deposition Machine, which allows 3D parts to be drawn in a CAD program. When the new shop is completed a larger CNC machine will be added to speed up the production process and a large CNC router cutter will be installed to cut the hull sections and major parts of the models. When asked about his comeback he says, “Skinner Models, Inc. will be here for a long time. Everything will always be built in the U.S.A. The quality will be the best. I used my name in the new company name because my customers know who Randy Skinner is and what I stand for.” www.skinnermodels.com ML A frequent cruiser, Warren Samut, president and CEO of Maritime Replicas, was sitting one day on the Royal Viking Star when a fellow passenger, who knew of Samut’s love of the sea and his success as an architect, approached him and asked if Samut would be interested in building him models of the ship he loved. After this meeting Samut’s life would change forever. Samut’s passion for the sea came at an early age. At six years old he began building models. At the age of 13 he applied for a cadetship in the Royal Navy, and although he was accepted, he had to relinquish the opportunity when his mother said no. When he was approached on that fateful day, little did the sea and ship enthusiast know that his fellow passenger would contact Warren Titus, a founder of Royal Vikig Line. According to Samut, Titus later ordered 200 three ft long models of the Royal Viking Star, and “that’s how Maritime Replicas was formed.” Headquartered in Miami, Fla., Maritime Replicas’ client list is impressive, and includes the U.S. Coast Guard and Cunard. Samut’s company has produced Cunard’s entire 20th century fleet, including the Titanic. It also built a 20 ft model of the Disney Magic which is the centerpiece of the Disney Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral. Samut even opened a workshop in China. What began as a six year old’s dream, is now a bigger reality than Samut could’ve imagined. He doesn’t spell out the recipe to his success but when you hear the enthusiam in his voice when he speaks of what he loves, you can tell. In his words, “when architecture fell all around me, and my inspiration seemed to seize, cruise lines served as my inspiration. I have a passion for what I do, I’m almost obsessed.” Guess its safe to say, that sometimes being obsessed is a good thing. www.maritimereplicas.com Maritime Replicas’ model of Cunard’s Queen Victoria REAL RESULTS WITH MAGAZINES WWW.MARINELOG.COM DIGITAL Want to add more marketing muscle to your print advertising campaign?
