Marine Log - March 2008 - (Page 46) NAV/COM SHOWCASE KVH ships 150,000th antenna Middletown, RI-based KVH Industries, Inc., a provider of in- motion satellite TV and communication systems, has recently shipped its 150,000th antenna. This milestone reflects both the growing demand for mobile access to entertainment and high-speed Internet services. KVH’s CEO Martine Kits van Heyningen says, “Achieving this level of sales success is a tremendous accomplishment for everyone at KVH. Fifteen years ago, we set out to become the leader in bringing satellite TV and broadband satellite communications to mobile customers. Our goal was to build our satellite business by introducing products that were more powerful, smaller and less expensive, and more reliable and easier to use. With far more mobile antennas in the field than our competition, and a robust international distribution network, I believe we are succeeding in that mission. It is gratifying that so many people are confirming our accomplishments by placing faith in our company and becoming our customers." KVH has designed, manufactured, and has now sold more than 150,000 mobile satellite antennas for applications on boats, RVs, trucks, buses, and automobiles. The company has won the prestigious General Motors Innovative Design Award, 2 CES Innovation Awards, 23 National Marine Electronics Association "Best Product" awards, the DAME Award in the Marine Electronics category, and a finalist for the Automotive News PACE Award. The company’s mobile satellite systems are the most practical way for it’s users to connect to television and data networks when they are beyond the limited reach of terrestrial-based broadcast and cellular towers. www.kvh.com Globe Wireless appointed by Iridium as partner for OpenPort Globe Wireless, Palm Bay, Fla., has been appointed as the Charter Distiribution Partner for OpenPort, Iridium’s new maritime satelite service. The OpenPort system uses an omni-directional antenna that weighs 10 kg and provides a dedicated IP connection at speeds up to 128 kbps. Frank Coles, president and CEO of Globe Wireless said, “Ship operators are looking to incorporate ships more closely into the office environment, enchance crew voice and browsing services, and reduce communications cost overall. Iridium’s OpenPort offers a simple and cost effective answer.” Coles added, “Our vertical integration already differentiates Globe Wireless from competitors.
