Marine Log - March 2008 - (Page 49) Ship Constructor launches Split & Merge Ship Constructor, Victoria, B.C., recently launched its Split & Merge software. According to President and CEO Rolf G. Oetter, “Split & Merge is a critical strategic tool that makes it easy to outsource portions of a project to specialized subcontractors while maintaining overall control and concurrent engineering through periodic merges.” The system allows distinct design/production module development assignments to be “parceled out” to skilled teams anywhere in the world. Oetter says the teams “can independently develop their section quickly, cost-effectively and accurately, then send back the completed file over a secure network for seamless reintegration into a single project model.” The software ensures that all ShipConstructor-defined and user-defined attributes are communicated to all project participants. This allows a yard manager to set up the rules that enable modelers to accurately create the parts with detailed accuracy, in turn facilitating efficient production in the shipyard. Split & Merge also enables designers to send completed sections to the shipyard for construction while other sections are still being developed, significantly decreasing design-to-build time. Data can also be easily exported to Navisworks and projected for periodic group review of every detail from a whole-ship perspective. The software is compatible with programs such as Inventor, Navisworks, and all versions of SQL Server 2000 and SQL 2005. www.shipconstructor.com An example of how split & merge works REAL RESULTS WITH MAGAZINES WWW.MARINELOG.COM DIGITAL Want to add more marketing muscle to your print advertising campaign?
