CONNAUGHTON, WHO STEPPED down as U.S. Maritime Administrator with the recent change of Administration, joined classification society ABS as corporate vice president for Government Affairs. James E. Caponiti was appointed the acting Deputy Maritime Administrator of the DOT ’s Maritime Administration, after Sean T. Connaughton’s departure. John “Dugan” Shipway will be stepping down from his position as president of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works. Jeff Geiger, the current senior vice president of operations, will replace Shipway beginning the first of April. Earl Agron, vice president of security for global container shipping line APL, was appointed to the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee by the Department of Homeland Security. Sean T. Connaughton ABS Leonard H. Tyler MAINE MARITIME John Sanford VIKING LIFE Leonard H. Tyler, the president of Maine Maritime Academy, announced his intention to retire from his post in August 2010. MAN Diesel North America appointed Phillip Wasinger director of Government Relations and Business Development. OSG America, Tampa, Fla., named current executive vice president, CFO and treasurer, Myles R. Itkin, its new president and CEO. Henry R. Flinter was promoted to CFO of OSG America L.P. Additionally, Captain Ian T. Blackley, the current managing director and COO of OSG Ship Management (U.K.) Ltd., has been appointed head of International Shipping Operations. Vanuatu Maritime Services Ltd. (VMSL), New York, N.Y., has promoted Captain Mike DeCharles to the position of senior manager of Safety, Security and Quality. In addition, executive vice president, Don Sheetz retired last month from VMSL, but plans to remain active in the industry as a maritime consultant.
