Marine Log - April 2008 - (Page 11) Aker Yards delivers fast ferry for ColorLine ker Yards delivered a “superspeed” day ferry for Color Line Transport AS, Norway. The vessel built at the Rauma yard is the first in the series of two. The ferry currently being called Colorspeed 1, until it gets its name at its Adonis sold for more than $1 Million The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration has sold the Adonis, a liquid-bulk tanker from the Beaumont Reserve fleet, for $1,151,727 to International Shipbreaking, Ltd., Brownsville, Tex. The ship brought the highest price for an obsolete ship under the Maritime Administration’s program, which disposes of obsolete ships in an eco-friendly manner. International Shipbreaking, Ltd., also purchased three other ships from the government. The Cape Catawba and the Cape Canaveral, both breakbulk freighters, were purchased from the James River Reserve Fleet site. While the Buyer, a breakbulk vessel was purchased, like the Adonis, from the Beaumont Reserve fleet. International Shipbreaking, Ltd., will pay and make arrangements for the ships to be transported. A christening, is intended for the Denmark-Norway service line. The operational cruising speed will be 27 knots, and the passage time from Kristiansand/Larvik in Norway to Hirtshals in Denmark will be from 3 to 4 hours. The 211 m long and 26 m wide vessel has 2,000 lane m of vehicle space and can carry 1,900 passengers on board. However, there are no passenger cabins in the day ferry. The second superspeed ferry will be delivered next summer.
