Marine Log - April 2008 - (Page 12) Update Russian investor for Aker Yards Aker Yards ASA says it is to sell 70% of the ownership of three of its Merchant Vessel shipyards to FLC West, a Russian investment company, for EUR 291.9 million. The yards are the Nikolaev facility in Ukraine and the Wismar and Warnemünde yards in Germany, all currently part of Aker Yards merchant vessels business area. The merchant vessels business area also include the Florø yard in Norway, but it is not part of the deal. The transaction will see FLC West buy 70% ownership in the Norwegian based company Aker Yards Ukraine Holding AS, which in turn will own 100% of the Nikolaev, Wismar and Warnemünde yards. Aker Yards will retain ownership of 30% of Aker Yards Ukraine Holding AS. It is expected that the new jointly owned group will build ships to meet the growing demand by Russian companies involved in hydrocarbons exploration, production and transportation. INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA Supply boat for Romeo Pappa The newly build supply vessel M/V Port Eads has been put into service by Robert Perez, owner of Romeo Pappa L.L.C. Propulsion for the ABS-classed, 166 ft x 40 ft vessel is supplied by a pair of Cummins KTA38 main engines delivering a combined 2,500 hp to Twin Disc 5.96:1 gears and 72 x 72 stainless steel four-blade propellers. The boat, which can carry 26 people, also has a 300 hp bow thruster and two 99 kW gen-sets. Transfer rates for both fuel and cargo water are 500 gal/min at 160 ft. Drilling fluids can be pumped to 200 feet at 450 gpm. Designed by Frank Basile’s Entech & Associ- The 166 ft supply boat M/V Port Eads ates, Inc., Houma La., and built by St. Johns Ship Building, Palatka, Fla., the Port Eads has performance speeds of 13 knots at 70 gal per hour and 11 knots at 50 gal per hour. The vessel can carry 97,093 gallons of cargo water, 50,000 gal of fuel, and 1,200 bbls of drilling fluids. Additional tankage is provided for 5,356 gal of potable water.
