Marine Log - April 2008 - (Page 41) COMMUNICATIONS Interactive TV, part of Seamobile’s Wave Entertainment System platform, could help cruise lines generate additional onboard revenue this, in turn, can assist in raising extra revenue. Interactive TV will be one of the features that guests onboard the Oceania Insignia will enjoy starting April 4. Wave Entertainment Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of SeaMobile Enterprises, has inked a deal with upscale cruise line Oceania Cruises to provide Oceania Cruises’ guests with satellite television service delivered at sea. The Oceania Insignia will be the first ship to deploy the Wave television platform. The line’s Nautica and Regatta are scheduled to receive the service later this year. Wave Entertainment includes SeaConcierge interactive TV, which allows passengers to learn more about and order ship services such as restaurant and spa services, shore excursions, room service via the TV remote. At Seamobile’s booth on the trade show floor, Seamobile executives Nancy Brumfield, chief marketing officer, and Steve Scraper, vice president, Product Development, discussed how the Wave Entertainment Network delivers an at-sea television platform that is akin to what consumers experience at home. The Wave programming platform a multi-channel, interactive television system will be distributed to passenger cruise ships in all ocean regions around the world. Wave offers abundant content—both linear and “ondemand”–with superior digital picture quality via its satellite delivered IPTV sys- tem. The television and audio services provided to Oceania Cruises will include linear cable, satellite and broadcast networks, audio content, video-on-demand, adult programming, special events, and other video content typically offered via multi-channel platforms. The Wave Entertainment platform uses a combination of satellite technology–delivered by SeaMobile’s Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN) - and special caching technology that allows viewers to experience live events and network programming in time slots they are accustomed to seeing.
